Eric Trump on Chicago: 'It's one of the great cities anywhere in the world'

US

MILWAUKEE — Former President Trump and prominent Republicans often like to use Chicago as a punching bag, pointing out its issues such as crime as examples of failed leadership.

But Trump’s son, Eric Trump, said Wednesday that he loves the city and said his father would be a cheerleader for the city if its top leaders would pick up the phone.

“I adore Chicago. It’s one of the great cities anywhere in the world, and don’t ever let anybody tell you that it’s not,” he told WGN at the Republican National Convention. “There’s problems that need to get fixed, and they better get tough in Chicago very, very quickly. And I’m telling you and I want to tell all of the people of Chicago: the day my father’s in office, if the call is made, he will give them every single resource to fix that city. But we’ve got to clean it up. We can’t have shootings on Michigan Avenue. This does not work. It’s horrible. The amount of people that have left the city because of it is horrible. We need to bring that city back alive.”

WGN has reached out to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office requesting comment.
