A mother-of-four from Louisiana had just gotten out of the shower when she got a text message from her husband warning her about puppies lost in the driveway, and “naturally [she] ran out like Christmas morning!”
In a post shared on TikTok on July 6, under the username @claycalledcourtney, the 36-year-old can be heard calling the puppies over; they appear to be lost, running up and down her driveway, and cuddling as she earns their trust, hug after hug.
A caption reads: “Best. Day. Ever… It’s likely that these are abandoned pups, and while that’s awful – I am glad they are safe. I’ve asked everyone in our small neighborhood so far, and no one knows anything.”

The poster, Courtney, told Newsweek: “We may be busy with life, but always have time to stop for God’s gift of animals.
“My husband left early that Friday morning and saw them in our driveway or ditch asleep. He then texted me, ‘I meant to tell you; there are puppies in our driveway up by the road!’ I had just jumped out of the shower and ran out to find them when I started the video. They weren’t sure at first, but haven’t left our side ever since.”
The poster found a total of five puppies in her driveway, including two females and three males. One of the girls has already found a loving family with two boys to play with, and 12 acres to explore.
“We plan to keep one, but making that choice of which has been the most difficult decision!! They are each uniquely charactered! All are healthy and doing great!” Courtney added.
Puppies are lots of fun, but owners must also care for them appropriately. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the U.K. says that the first thing to do when bringing a new puppy home, after having properly introduced them to any other established pets, is to carry them outside. Get them acquainted to new people, sights, and sounds.
You can then gradually introduce them to new experiences such as riding the car and going to the groomers. As they grow, you can begin to leave them alone for short periods to prevent separation-related behaviors.
Once you have introduced an established routine and they are fully vaccinated, it is time to socialize them and take them to puppy classes.
Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet ‘Shelter Watch Report’ found.
Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 559,000 views and more than 67,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Tatted Winter, commented: “WAIT! There is a puppy distribution system?!?! Why hasn’t it chosen me?”
Inmintconditiondolls posted: “If I see puppies on the side of the road my household is getting puppies and my two existing puppers will just need to accept that they’re big brothers now lol [laugh out loud].”
Wandering Lines added: “There’s literally nothing like the playfulness of puppies with their siblings, non stop playing.”
