Kyle Gass is facing major consequences following comments he made about the Trump assassination attempt while on stage with Jack Black on Sunday. The Tenacious D musician has officially been dropped from his talent agency, Greene Talent.
Michael Greene, who represented Gass at the agency, confirmed to the Daily News that his agency is no longer working with the musician.
It all started when the guitarist was onstage with bandmate Jack Black at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Australia. The duo were performing on Gass’ 64th birthday and when a birthday cake was rolled onto the stage to celebrate, Black asked Gass to “make a wish.”
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass responded.
This comment was made the day after former President Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet in an attempted assassination during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The social media backlash was immediate and fierce. Gass immediately responded with an apology posted to his Instagram where he describes his words as “highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.”
Gass explained that the line was “improvised onstage,” a decision he now regrets.
“I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone,” he added in his Instagram message. “What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
Black also released a statement echoing a similar sentiment saying he was, “was blindsided by what was said at the show,” noting “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.”
He continued, “After much reflection,” he continued, “I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
The pair’s “Spicy Meatball Tour” was scheduled to continue Tuesday night in Newcastle and was slated to run through October.
Their touring company announced in a statement saying that current ticket holders “are asked to hold onto their tickets until further information is available.”
