Hit-and-run in Harbor Gateway sends truck flying into gas station car wash

US

A violent hit-and-run crash involving two trucks caused heavy damage to a gas station car wash in Harbor Gateway.

Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed to KTLA that the collision occurred just after 5 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 190th Street and Normandie Avenue.

“A white pickup truck was driving at a high rate of speed and struck a blue truck, causing it to spin around at the intersection,” LAPD said.  “The white truck continued onto the curb, missing the fuel pumps but crashing into the gas station car wash.”

The occupants of the blue truck that was hit were not injured, police added.

The driver of the white truck which lost control fled the scene in an unknown direction and remains outstanding as of 9:30 a.m.

Gas station employees were unable to immediately provide KTLA with any surveillance footage depicting the crash, but KTLA photojournalist Ed Almonte captured the aftermath of the crash; the white truck, which had tires in its bed and appeared to be towing a trailer, still remained partially inside the car wash with debris strewn across the gas station parking lot.

The other truck involved had come to rest on the other side of the gas station, video showed.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Ed Almonte and Sofia Pop Perez contributed to this report.
