Abandoned restaurant in Koreatown bursts into flames

US

Firefighters battled a fire at an abandoned restaurant in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood early Sunday morning.

According to an alert put out by the Los Angeles Fire Department, a fire was first reported at the building, located at 3455 West 8th Street, at 8:23 a.m.

The one-story structure was “heavily involved with fire” when crews arrived.

“Crews on scene transitioned to a defensive posture, removing personnel from the interior and the roof due to concerns regarding structural integrity,” LAFD said.

Footage from outside the restaurant shows fire crews dousing the flames as a plume of black smoke rose into the morning sky.

The structure was eventually declared a knockdown after 134 firefighters took 53 minutes to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported, and what caused the fire was not immediately known.
