This comes after supporters began standing outside Trump Tower late Saturday night, according to CBS News. In addition, shortly after the shooting, CBS News reported the New York City Police Department (NYPD) increased security at the building.

Newsweek has reached out to the NYPD via email for comment.

A spokesperson for New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ office told CBS News that they are boosting security at various sites across the city including Trump Tower and the Trump Building at 40 Wall Street “out of an abundance of caution.” There will also be additional police at Foley Square and City Hall.

“While we are surging these resources, we want to be very clear that we see no nexus to NYC at this time,” the spokesperson added.

Adams also responded to the shooting by sharing a message to X, formerly Twitter, condemning the violence and announced the NYPD will be on sites across the five boroughs.

“The events that unfolded at today’s rally in Pennsylvania are horrific. Sending my prayers to former President Trump, his family, and everyone who was at today’s event. Political violence has no place in this country. Out of an abundance of caution, the NYPD is surging officers to certain sites across the five boroughs,” the mayor wrote.
