A vehicle driving in the wrong lane overnight struck another vehicle before veering into a building in the Burnside neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 3:15 a.m., a vehicle traveling south in the 9000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue was driving in the wrong lane and struck another vehicle before veering into a building, Chicago police said.

The wrong-way driver suffered multiple injuries and was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine in critical condition. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken in good condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital, police said.

Officers cleared the struck building and Chicago Fire Department officials came to the scene to determine if the building was safe to enter.

The wrong way driver was being issued multiple traffic citations, police said.
