AUSTIN (KXAN) — The American Red Cross (ARC) announced a volunteer recruitment event in Austin and Georgetown on Sunday.

ARC said it hoped to get volunteers signed up and trained to help with any disaster relief operations ahead of Hurricane Beryl.

“Comprising 90% of the Red Cross workforce, volunteers are continuously providing shelter, comfort, hot meals, health services and recovery support to families in need across the country,” ARC said in a release.

Organizers said the events would take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montopolis Recreation Center, located at 1200 Montopolis Drive, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Georgetown First United Methodist, located at 410 E. University Ave.

ARC said there was a critical need for Mass Care Volunteers who support the day-to-day activities, as well as Disaster Health or Mental Health Services Volunteers with skills as a licensed healthcare provider.
