Fourth of July weekend Amtrak service thrown into chaos for riders between New York City and Boston

US

Amtrak announced that it is suspending service between New York and Boston for the remainder of the day on Saturday.

The disruption is reportedly caused by a malfunctioning circuit breaker, leading to a power outage on all tracks between Penn Station in New York City and Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut.

In a message posted at 3:30 p.m., Amtrak stated it would provide updates on the suspension on its website.

“On July 6, due to an ongoing electric power issue, Amtrak canceled service between Boston and New York City for the remainder of the day,” the announcement stated.

Those with reservations on affected trains will generally be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or on another day, Amtrak added.

Additionally, the rail service will waive extra charges for customers needing to change their reservations.
