ISP trooper injured in crash along interstate in Chicago

US

CHICAGO — An Illinois State Police (ISP) trooper was injured on Friday after a crash along Interstate 90.

According to ISP, the crash unfolded just before 3 a.m. near West 75th Street.

Authorities say the trooper’s squad car was parked in lane 3 of the interstate, with its emergency lights on, while the trooper was helping another driver, who had been involved in a crash, exit the passenger side of their vehicle.

Officials say a Mercedes, whose driver allegedly failed to move over for the emergency vehicle, then struck the driver’s side of the stopped car, causing it to hit the trooper.

The trooper was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Mercedes was issued citations for failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle, following too closely, improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol.
