Illinois Tollway warns of I-PASS text message scam

US

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The Illinois Tollway is warning I-PASS customers of a phishing scam being sent out in the form of text messages.

The text appears to come from “Illinois toll way” and details a specific toll amount that the customer owes.

The Illinois Tollway said in a release that customers should delete the messages and file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. Anyone still unsure of whether they have outstanding toll amounts should check their accounts online at IllinoisTollway.com or call customer service at 1-800-824-7277.

The Illinois Tollway isn’t the only authority being impersonated. Customers in Florida’s SunPass system are also receiving scam text messages.
