Rice, a lifelong Yankees fan, torched his hometown team Saturday.
Despite growing up Cohasset, Ben Rice has been a lifelong Yankees fan.
Saturday afternoon, he showed no mercy against his hometown team in a resounding 14-4 triumph, blasting three home runs against the Red Sox.
Rice became the first Yankees rookie ever to record three homers in a game.
He started the scoring with a solo shot to right in the first, launched a three-run shot in the fifth, then added another three-run bomb in the seventh. Both his second and third homers traveled exactly 406 feet to right-center.
Afterward, Rice was a bit confused during his curtain call. He got by with a little help from his friends.
He finished 3 for 5 with three runs and seven RBIs.
Rice, 25, played for Noble and Greenough School, Dartmouth College, and the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The Yankees drafted him in the 12th round in 2021, he worked his way up through the minors, and he earned his spot on the roster in mid-June.
So far, he’s made the most of the opportunity, with the highlight coming Saturday.
