CHICAGO — A Chicago man accused of carjacking an elderly woman at gunpoint on the city’s Far South Side is now facing a felony charge.

Chicago police say 19-year-old Trevon Robinson, a Back of the Yards resident, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm.

Authorities say the charge stems from an incident that allegedly unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, in the 1900 block of East 95th Street in South Deering.

Officers say Robinson allegedly held an 83-year-old woman at gunpoint and stole her vehicle.

According to Ald. Matthew O’Shea (19th Ward), the woman was not harmed in the incident.

Authorities eventually caught up with Robinson on Tuesday and he was taken into custody by members of the Chicago Police Vehicular Hijacking Task Force.

“I would like to thank the Chicago Police Department and Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in getting this habitual gun offender off the street,” O’Shea said in a statement on Friday.

Robinson appeared in court on Thursday for a detention hearing.
