Philadelphia was recently named the most walkable city in America by USA Today readers, edging out a New England destination.

The publication released a recent list of the 10 best walkable cities in America, part of its 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and Providence, R.I., ranked No. 2, second only to Philly. Boston ranked No. 6.

The cities on the list “offer lots of things to do, places to eat, and places to stay, and it’s all connected by pedestrian-friendly streets,” according to the publication.

Here is what USA Today wrote about Providence:

“During your visit to Providence, enjoy a stroll along the river and snap a photo by the pedestrian bridge, shop along the city’s cobblestone streets, and check out all the murals and public art on display throughout downtown.”

Providence ranked No. 2 on another travel list recently: CNN dropped its inaugural list of America’s 10 best towns to visit last month and Providence ranked No. 2. Richmond, Virginia outranked Providence on that list.
