The catastrophe of a debate on June 27 showcased terminally impaired candidates in the campaign for president of the United States. One of them was President Joe Biden.
The race to save our democracy and the planet is far too close of a call than it needs to be. Vice President Kamala Harris or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer or Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (to just name a few) would have handled such a critical moment so much more effectively than did our president.
It was possible to see this coming two years ago (or more).
Biden is a decent man who needs to step down while there’s still time. It’s not right that this decision should have sat for so long with just two people (i.e., Joe and Jill Biden) and enabled by many Democratic members of Congress. There’s good stubbornness there, but there’s also a lot of vanity and entitlement.
Time’s up, but the president shows no sign of positive movement. Others have to step up to do what’s needed, both leading up to as well as during the Democratic National Convention Aug. 19-22 in Chicago.
