LIVE: Police pursue driver in suspected stolen vehicle

US

Police are pursuing a suspect driving erratically in the San Fernando Valley area Thursday night.

The driver, in a red Toyota Prius, is believed to be driving a stolen vehicle.

The suspect was seen reaching speeds of 60-70 miles per hour on surface streets while running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

At one point, the suspect turned onto a side street with a dead end. With nowhere to go, the driver smashes into a metal gate, shattering the front windshield and leaving the vehicle with major front-end and driver-side damage.

The suspect later headed onto the freeway and narrowly missed several vehicles while weaving through traffic and reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit started around 7:45 p.m. as the driver continues speeding away while multiple San Fernando police units follow closely behind.

The vehicle was reportedly involved in a pursuit earlier on the same day by Burbank police who lost the vehicle.
