WATERTOWN, Wis.– Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers was spotted Wednesday night at an outdoor concert in Madison after he opted not to attend a meeting of his fellow governors and President Biden at the White House following last week’s brutal presidential debate.

Evers, 72, was the only one of the 23 Democratic state governors not to show up to the powwow either in person or virtually.

Instead, the governor took in a performance of patriotic music by the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra ahead of the July 4 holiday.

Evers, who has narrowly won two terms in office and is eligible to run again in 2026, stood behind Biden following the debate debacle, saying: “One debate doesn’t change how President Biden has delivered for Wisconsin over the last three and a half years. I supported President Biden four years ago, and I support him still today.”

Evers spokesperson Britt Cudabeck said on X that Evers “didn’t attend the meeting [Wednesday night] because he’s focused on moving forward and winning Wisconsin.”

The governor is scheduled to appear with Biden when the commander in chief visits Madison for a campaign event Friday.

In 2016, Donald Trump became the first Republican to win Wisconsin since Ronald Reagan in 1984, only for Biden to put it back in the Democratic column four years later.

Biden, 81, and Trump, 78, are currently in a flat-footed tie for the state’s 10 electoral votes, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average, with each candidate receiving 47.3% of the vote in a head-to-head matchup.

The White House has so far rejected suggestions that Biden intends to drop out of the race after renewed concerns were raised about his cognitive abilities at the June 27 forum.
