A man died early Thursday morning in a single-car crash in Ventura County, according to authorities.

The California Highway Patrol said that the crash was reported on State Route 232 near Montgomery Avenue at about 3:04 a.m. Responding officers found a black 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with “major damage.”

Investigations revealed that the driver’s car left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole, which remained in place.

Emergency personnel used “major equipment” to extricate the driver, who was unresponsive. Authorities said he was transported to a local hospital, where he died about an hour after the crash was reported.

The man, who hasn’t been identified publicly, was 19-years-old.

Drugs and alcohol aren’t believed to be factors in the crash, police said. The man was the solo occupant of the vehicle.
