A local, family-run Armenian Restaurant in Watertown is temporarily closed after a pick-up truck crashed into its front entrance and fled the scene, according to the Watertown Police.

A red F250 truck crashed into Jana Grill and Bakery on Watertown Street at 2:20 a.m. Monday, police said in a statement.

Police are still looking for information that could lead them to the driver, said Watertown Police Captain Daniel Unsworth.

The Jana family took to social media, saying that an unidentified person driving a red truck slammed into the restaurant, leaving external and internal damage.

The family is asking the community to help identify the driver. Anyone with information can contact the Watertown Police Department, which is aiding the ongoing investigation.

The restaurant has had to cancel all reservations and orders for the upcoming weeks.

“This is shocking news to us and we are still processing,” the Jana family wrote on social media.

According to its website, the restaurant has been operating since 2018 and serves Armenian, Lebanese, Georgian and Eastern European cuisine. Jana, or Jan, is a term used in Armenia to express affection for loved ones, roughly translating to “dear” or “darling” in English.

The owner told NBC Boston that the restaurant survived COVID, a fire, and now this. The family planned on expanding to Boston, which is now on pause.

“In advance, we’d like to thank our supportive community and the city of Watertown for everything,” the family added.

Anyone who can identify the driver or has pertinent information to share can call the Watertown Police at 617-972-6500, reach out to them via Facebook, or contact them anonymously by visiting their website at www.watertownpd.org
