Man, 20, fatally stabbed in clash with 2 men near his Washington Heights home

A 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a clash with two men a few blocks from his Washington Heights home, police said Wednesday.

Mateo Solis was knifed in the back near St. Nicholas Ave. and W. 185th St. about 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, cops said.

Medics rushed him to Harlem Hospital where he died of his injuries a few hours later.

Solis was about three blocks from home when he was stabbed, according to cops.

Witnesses told cops Solis was fighting with two men before he was attacked. One of those me is described by cops as Hispanic and 5-foot-4 and was wearing a black shirt, The other man was wearing a gray shirt.

The two men were last seen running downtown on St. Nicholas Ave. They have not been caught.

Cops were scouring the area for surveillance video that could help them identify the attackers.

The slaying was one of three stabbings citywide in a four-hour span.

At 11:30 p.m. Monday, an off-duty dollar van driver stabbed a would-be customer in the back of the head during a fight sparked by his victim demanding a ride in Flatbush, Brooklyn, cops said. The customer fought back, slamming the driver in the head with a heavy object picked up from the street. Both the dollar van driver and his customer are expected to recover and were charged with assault.

About 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 31-year-old man was slashed in the hand during a fight on Delancey St. near the Bowery on the Lower East Side. His attacker fled the area on a Citi Bike, cops said.
