Chicago's 31st Street Beach to close early, extra security in place for 10 days

US

CHICAGO — There will be extra security measures put in place at Chicago’s 31st Street Beach for the next several days.

4th Ward Alderman Lamont Robinson’s office confirmed to WGN News that the beach will close at 9 p.m. for the next 10 days.

Additionally, the alderman’s office said there will be new fencing, additional security and bag checks in place.

Violence interrupters will be on site as well.

The additional measures come after a series of violent crimes at the beach.

Last weekend, police said a 17-year-old female was shot by a 26-year-old concealed-carry holder and has been placed in custody after allegedly stabbing the woman during an argument.

Earlier in June, two people were killed in a shooting at the beach.

Shortly after that shooting Robinson called for the beach to close early.
