Just two weeks after winning his first NBA title with the Celtics, Jayson Tatum is reportedly set to rewrite the record books with his new contract in Boston.

Tatum is finalizing a five-year, $315 million supermax contract with the Celtics that will run through the 2029-30 season, according to The Boston Globe.

Tatum’s new deal stands as the largest deal in NBA history — surpassing the five-year, $304 million supermax deal that his Celtics teammate, Jaylen Brown, signed in July 2023.

This record-setting deal for Tatum has sat on the horizon for both Tatum and the Celtics well before the 26-year-old forward helped lead Boston to its first NBA championship since 2008.

After earning his second straight All-NBA first team selection last season, Tatum became eligible to command a supermax contract from the Celtics, with the No. 3 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft establishing himself as one of the top players in the league over the last few seasons.

Tatum put together another All-Star campaign in 2023-24 with the Celtics, averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists during regular-season action while connecting on 47.1 percent of his field goals — including 37.6 percent of his attempts beyond the arc.

Tatums’ new contract marks the second sizable contract that Brad Stevens and the Celtics reportedly doled out on Monday, with Derrick White agreeing to a four-year, $126 million contract extension.

Boston was already set to defend its title in 2024-25 with its top nine rotation players back in the fold after Luke Kornet re-upped on a one-year deal Sunday. But with White signing a new deal, Boston’s five starters for most of the 2023-24 season will all remain under contract for at least the 2025-26 campaign as well.
