Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy to close after almost 125 years

The board of trustees at a college in Quincy unanimously voted to begin closing down the institution due to financial concerns. 

Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, founded in 1990, has faced ongoing financial hardship and will be closing after attempting to use multiple alternate methods to closure, according to Masslive. 

“We know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many, especially those whose lives have been transformed by their affiliation with Eastern Nazarene College through its rich history,” Dr. David W. Bowser, from the board of trustees, said in a statement.

The college still plans to assist its student population who are on the path to graduating by the end of the year by finding another educational institution to transfer to, such as Gordon College, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and Trevecca Nazarene University, which are options to all students. 

Despite its closure, the university will continue to provide housing to migrants as an extension of an initiative that began in July 2023. 

“ENC anticipates no immediate impact on the Matthew 25 initiative and will remain in close contact with its partners in the initiative to ensure timely and transparent communication with the families we serve,” said a university spokesperson, according to Masslive. 

The school’s population is made up of 850 students who represent more than 50 different states of origin. 

“While the outcome of this process is known, the process to get there remains fluid,” said college President Rev. Dr. Colleen R. Derr.
