If the weekend means you find Wordle a bit more of a struggle, Newsweek is here to make things easier.

Since it was uploaded to the web in October 2021, Wordle has done what few viral sensations have been able to achieve—it’s remained popular.

New York-based software engineer Josh Wardle invented and then refined the daily word game for his crossword-loving partner, Palek Shah, to keep her entertained during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eventually, he decided he wanted to bring joy to others by making the game public.

After reaching 2 million players within just four months, Wordle grabbed the attention of The New York Times, which purchased the word puzzle from Wardle in January 2022 for a seven-figure sum.

A person plays online word game “Wordle” on a cell phone in Washington, D.C., on January 11, 2022. Created by Josh Wardle, the five-letter daily puzzle gives players six tries to guess a word correctly.

The premise is simple: one five-letter word per day and six attempts to guess it. The tile will go green if the correct letter is in the right place. If it is in the wrong place, it turns yellow. The tile goes gray if it doesn’t appear in the word at all.

According to research conducted by WordsRated, the most common starting letter used by Wordle players is S, with 15.81 percent of answers beginning with it.

The next most common starting letter is C, with 8.58 percent of answers starting with the consonant, although S is the starting letter for 167 more words than its nearest rival. B is in third place with 7.49 percent.

Newsweek has put together five hints to help you figure out today’s Wordle puzzle. The answer will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll down with caution if you want to work it out for yourself.
