LeBron James is teaming up with his son Bronny James on the Lakers. Los Angeles picked Bronny No. 55 overall during this week’s draft.

Celtics legend Paul Pierce, who had a number of playoff battles over the years with the elder James, couldn’t help but marvel at the fact that the father-son duo will be teammates.

Pierce gave his reaction to the pick during a recent episode of FS1’s Undisputed.

“The more and more I think about this, this is the most fascinating thing that we’ve seen in sports, a father-son combination,” Pierce said. “I’ve been around a long time, y’all have been around a long time. You’ve seen a lot of fathers watch their sons in the NBA, but also played in the NBA.

“We’re in the era where more and more of that is happening,” Pierce added. “Of course you’ve got (Steph) Curry and his dad played and so on. You’ve seen brothers in the NBA, you’ve got the Holiday family, the Lopez family. You’ve got so many brothers that have been in the NBA. We’ve seen that to where it’s normal now.”

But, a father having the longevity to play in the NBA with his son is abnormal, Pierce said.

“Out of all the sports, when you look at the top sports — football, baseball, and basketball, the longevity is just not there in basketball,” Pierce said. “I think you average about three or four years as a player. So, to have a situation where your son is playing with you in an NBA game … you have to not only be good and great, but you have to be there a very long time.”

James’s status as one of the greatest players ever also elevates the feat, Pierce said.

“I thought like ‘damn’, I can’t wait for the documentary,” Pierce said. “But the more and more I thought about LeBron’s story they’re going to have to make this a 10-20 part series.

“It’s not going to be enough for just a documentary because this is going to go all the way back to LeBron James in high-school and how he rose with the expectations, all the way to different franchises winning, to now your son is in the NBA playing with you on the most storied franchise in NBA history.”

“I don’t know, this might be the greatest story ever told.”
