Firefighters discovered the body of a man while battling a blaze at a Fox Lake home Thursday morning, authorities said.

Fox Lake Fire Protection District Lt. Corinne Bauer said firefighters were called to the single-family home in the 200 block of Lippincott Lane at 7:37 a.m. The first crews on scene arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the rear of the house.

Firefighters discovered the body during an initial search of the home, Bauer said. The man’s identity has not been revealed.

No one else was in the house at the time, she added.

The blaze was declared under control about 11 a.m. and the home was a total loss, officials said. Bauer said the fire was fought from both inside and outside the residence.

“There was a lot of salvage and overhaul we had to do,” she said. “The fire went up to the attic as well.”

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. The Lake County Coroner Office is investigating the death.

Crews from Lake Villa, Round Lake, Wauconda, Antioch and Spring Grove assisted in the firefighting efforts.
