BROOKLYN, New York (KTRK) — It’s not over yet.
The 2024 NBA Draft was split into a two-day event for the first time in league history.
Where will Bronny James land?
Above all, the talk of the town in Round 2 of this year’s draft is the landing spot of Bronny James, the son of the NBA’s all-time scoring leader and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. Numerous NBA mock drafts project Bronny at No. 55, going to the Lakers, which would mark the first active father-son NBA duo to play together in the association.
Rockets trade No. 44 overall pick
After the Houston Rockets selected Reed Shepperd with the No. 3 overall pick on Wednesday night, Houston traded the No. 44 pick in exchange for Atlanta Hawks forward AJ Griffin on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Griffin, a Dallas native, was a former first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
The Rockets also have a total of seven first-round picks in store for the foreseeable future.
Will UH’s Jamal Shead rise or fall on the draft board?
An appealing draft prospect in the second round would be University of Houston product Jamal Shead if he remains available on the draft board on Thursday.
Shead, who was named Big 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in his final season at UH, could end up as a second-round steal.
Various NBA teams in the second round that could keep their tabs open on Shead would be teams such as the New York Knicks (at No. 38 and No. 51) and Miami Heat (at No. 43).
As for the Knicks, Shead would blend in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s style of play with his defensive tenacity in the second unit.
Concerning the Heat, Shead would fit the “Heat culture” with his effort on the defensive end as well. Overall, the All-American point guard’s elite toughness and playmaking are significant upgrades for any team that selects him.
Day 2 of the 2024 NBA Draft is underway on ABC13’s sister network, ESPN.
