One is half-pizzeria, half-oyster bar in Gloucester, and another is at an inn in Vermont.

The New York Times made the case that pizza has gotten better, and that a high-quality pie can be found just about anywhere, with two New England spots earning a nod on a list of 22 top pizza restaurants

Food writer Brett Anderson wrote that we have the rise of wood-fire Neapolitan pizzerias in the early 2000s to thank for pizza getting so good. And it isn’t just the typical pizza locales like New York or Chicago — there’s exceptional pizza to be found in every corner of the country, according to the Times

So where should you try your next slice, according to this list? The closest pizzeria to Boston isn’t just a pizzeria, but an oyster bar as well in the coastal town of Gloucester.

Short & Main has been open in the North Shore for more than 10 years, prioritizing ingredients that come from local farmers, with a few exceptions. Their menu isn’t just wood-oven pizza and oysters — with some salads, pastas, and specials available — but the two are definitely the stars of the show.

Head toward a change of scenery in Bristol, Vermont, near the Green Mountain range, and grab a pie at The Tillerman, also on the Times list.

The setting is a rustic farmhouse-turned-inn, with a menu that celebrates Vermont’s farmers every season. But don’t just go for the seasonal pizza: grab a dessert, listen to live music by the barn, and maybe even stay the night.

Find yourself outside of New England, here are the other top-notch pizzerias and restaurants that made the list:
