There’s no bones about it — one dog breed in the Bay State is more sought after than others.

New research from Showsight Magazine, a purebred dog publication, that analyzed search data found that the Bernese Mountain Dog is the most popular dog breed in 10 states, including Massachusetts.

“Originating from Switzerland, the ‘Berner’ is a sizeable tri-colored breed of working dog that’s well-known for its loyalty, intelligence, and self-confident temperament,” the study says about the breed. “These qualities make the breed an excellent choice for many families, so long as the household has the space to accommodate these large dogs and the time to give them the exercise and mental stimulation they need.”

The popularity of Bernese Mountain Dogs in northern states can be attributed to their Swiss origins, which make them well-suited for colder climates. Though they are on the bigger side, they are known for having a gentle nature.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are also popular in Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Cane Corsos, a breed of mastiff, are the most sought-after dogs in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and 38 other states, according to the study.
