Thunderstorms expected, temperatures near 90

National Weather Service officials are expecting temperatures in the mid 90s Saturday before falling when possible thunderstorms roll into the area in the late morning and afternoon hours.

Current mid-morning temperatures at Midway Airport is mostly cloudy and breezy at 92 degrees. Farther northwest at O’Hare International Airport conditions are the same at 91 degrees.

Officials said in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana thunderstorms are expected with a possible tornado risk. Damaging wind up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail was a possibility.

A high temperature of 94 degrees was expected Saturday but a low of 70 degrees was expected in the nightly hours, officials said.

Showers and thunderstorms are a possibility before 3 a.m. Sunday, and those storms may produce heavy rainfall. There was a 90 percent chance of rain, with wind gusts up to 30 mph, officials said.

Sunday officials expect cooler temperatures in the high 70s with sunny conditions.
