Mike Gorman wouldn’t have missed the Celtics’ 2024 championship parade for anything.

The now-former television voice of the team rode along the celebration route in Boston on one of the many participating duck boats on Friday. Wearing a simple, yet effective, white t-shirt with “BOSTON” written in green lettering across his chest, the recent retiree smiled and waved to over a million elated Celtics fans from TD Garden to the Hynes Convention Center.

Gorman retired from his broadcasting role following the end of the Celtics’ illustrious postseason run, but that didn’t mean he would skip out on attending the NBA champs’ festivities. The Boston native witnessed his fifth Celtics championship as the team’s play-by-play voice this year (1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, and 2024).

Much like the rest of the city of Boston, Gorman was seen drinking a beer before the duck boats took off at 11 a.m.

Gorman was one of several popular Celtics figures receiving cheers from fans along the parade route. The 76-year-old reflected on crowd members yelling his name as he passed by them during the lively celebration.

“It’s a wonderful outpouring of the people of Boston towards one of their own, because I feel like I’m one of their own having (been) born and brought up here,” Gorman said in a video curated by NBC Sports Boston. “To hear my name shouted by the crowd was really very touching.

“It’s funny, I have sunglasses on because you can’t tell when I’ve got tears forming.”

The Basketball Hall of Famer was seen smiling and waving to Celtics fans throughout the duck boat ride. His TV successor, Drew Carter, captured a video of Gorman taking in the sights and sounds from his seat:

Here’s a spectator’s view of Gorman enjoying himself on his duck boat:

“I feel like…the theme of ‘Cheers’ where everybody knows your name. That’s what I feel about the city of Boston now,” Gorman said of fans screaming his name.

Amidst Boston’s party for the Celtics and just a few days removed from the team clinching the 2024 NBA Finals, Gorman predicted the Celtics to repeat as champions and celebrate another title next season.

“Same time, same place next year,” he said.
