A Simi Valley man received his sentence Thursday for the sexual abuse of a family member that went on for more than 10 years.

Sixty-five-year-old Phillip Allen Fleming was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in state prison for the continuous abuse that occurred between 1996 and 2007, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.

“The crimes began when the victim was just six years old and only stopped when she moved out of the home at age 18,” the DA’s office stated in a news release.

Fleming was investigated after the victim came forward to report the molestation in April of 2021.

He pled guilty in May to one count of felony continuous sexual abuse and two counts of felony lewd acts upon a child.

“He also admitted to special allegations that the victim was under 18 years of age, the victim was vulnerable, and that he took advantage of a position of trust,” the DA’s Office said.

“With offenses dating back to 1996, this case shows that if you are a victim of child sexual abuse, California’s extended statute of limitations on child sex crimes means it may not be too late to come forward and obtain justice,” said Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Moreno who prosecuted the case.
