Man receives 30 years for murder in 2021 Manor ISD graduate's death

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man was sentenced in Hays County on June 7 in connection with the 2021 death of a Manor ISD graduate at a San Marcos apartment complex.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Michael Torres pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to the death of 19-year-old Lavonte Benford.

He was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison for the murder charge and 20 years for the aggravated assault charge, according to documents. The sentences will run concurrently.

Toward his sentence, Torres has a jail credit of 917 days.
