Police shoot, kill woman in downtown Denver

Denver police officers shot and killed a woman downtown on Sunday, according to the Denver Police Department.

The shooting happened near the intersection of North Broadway and Lawrence Street, according to a 12:53 p.m. post by the department on X.

Denver police officers received two calls about a woman allegedly holding a knife and standing in the intersection of North Broadway and Lawrence Street around 11:45 a.m., according to a 2:42 p.m. video update from the Denver Police Department.

When officers arrived, they told the woman to drop the weapon, which was a “very large, hunting-style knife,” according to police. The woman allegedly refused and came toward the officers while still holding the knife, police said. The officers tasered the woman twice, but she allegedly began advancing faster, according to the update. Three officers fired several rounds and shot the suspect.

An ambulance arrived at the scene within two minutes of the incident and the woman received medical aid, police said. She died at the scene and her identity has not yet been publicly released, according to the department.
