Man arrested, accused of impersonating APD officer

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday after the Austin Police Department said he was impersonating an APD officer.

On Jan. 16, an investigation began after photos of a man in an APD uniform “came to light,” police said Monday in a news release. The man was not “recognized” as a past or present officer, according to police.

The investigation later identified the man as Sean Michael MacDonald. He was arrested on charges of false identification as a peace officer.

Court records did not show an attorney for MacDonald at the time this article was published.

The APD Aggravated Assault Unit is asking for anyone who has had contact with MacDonald while representing himself as an APD officer to contact APD. This includes instances of MacDonald saying he was a police officer, as well as times where he took action as an officer, according to police.

Anyone with any information may submit a tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling (512) 472-8477.
