According to WSOC, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s helicopter began following a vehicle after a reported home break-in just before 11 a.m., authorities said.
Shortly after the break-in, investigators spotted a stolen pickup truck speeding and swerving on Interstate 77 near Clanton Road in south Charlotte.
The truck went to an area Walmart. The driver jumped out of the truck and stole a different car in the Walmart parking lot.
The thief then drove north, nearly hitting a pedestrian at one point when the stolen car drove on a sidewalk.
Just after 1 p.m., the suspect crashed into another vehicle at a different intersection. He then carjacked another vehicle before heading down Johnston Road.
The driver continued on until about 1:30 p.m. when he ran through a stoplight and crashed into another car.
The suspect then got out of the car with his hands raised in surrender. Officers grabbed him and forced him to the ground, arresting him.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not identified the suspect or detailed what criminal charges he will face.
