[Causes for Lean condition (Too much air in the fuel to air mixture)]

The prefect ratio for gasoline combustion engines is 14.7:1. I.e. for every one gram of fuel, 14.7 grams of air are required.

On the air side:
– Dirty or failed /MAP sensor (ECU’s calculations are wrong due to failed/dirty sensor)
– O2 sensor issue (ECU’s calculations are wrong due to failed/failing sensor)
– Vacuum leaks (Allowing UNMETERED air into the system, thus, too much air)
– Exhaust leaks (Allowing UNMETERED air into the system, throwing off the O2 sensors)

On the fuel side:
– Dirty fuel injectors (ECU can’t control the pulse width properly to adjust the ratio correctly)
– Weak fuel pump (Fuel pressure is off, throwing off the ratio)
– Clogged fuel lines. (Fuel pressure is off, throwing off the ratio)
