Why Taylor Swift Isn’t at Travis Kelce’s L.A. Chargers Game After Skipping Last Week’s Chiefs Face-Off

Culture

After one week away from Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs football games, Taylor Swift decided to take a second Sunday off, allowing him to just focus on his face-off against the Los Angeles Chargers. While she usually arrives an hour before kickoff, she was not seen in the stadium before or after the game started at 4:25 P.M. ET.

Kelce did get attention for his early game performance, however:

Swift attended Kelce’s first two games of the season, both of which were at Kansas City, Missouri’s Arrowhead Stadium. She has not been at any away games yet.

The star is currently on a break until October 18 when she’ll resume her Eras Tour concerts in Miami. She spent the past week out of the spotlight after making headlines for her night out in New York City with Gigi Hadid on Saturday, September 21.

The Chiefs have won all three of their games so far, although Kelce’s performance during them has drawn some media attention. The tight end has also been in the news for his work in Ryan Murphy’s new series Grotesquerie. The first episode came out on Wednesday, September 25.

Murphy shared the acting advice that Swift gave her boyfriend as he took on the role in an interview with E! this week. The only thing that [Travis and I] talked about was that she’s very supportive of him, and if he has an interest, she wanted him to try it,” the show co-creator said. “I was thrilled about that.” Murphy generally has heard nothing but “sweet, lovely things [about Swift]. I love her, too.”

Swift’s appearances at Kelce’s games put extra attention on her—and require a good deal of added security to keep her safe. This factor may also contribute to her choice to cheer Kelce on from afar these last two weeks.

Swift has never sought out the NFL cameras. She told Time in December, “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the-camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”

She added, “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
