Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have filed for divorce, ending their two-year marriage and, apparently, their past promises to each other.
Back in 2022, Lopez appeared on “The Zane Lowe Show,” where she revealed that she and Affleck were so smitten that he would sign his emails to her with “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere,” she said on the Apple Music talk show. According to Lopez, Ben even had the phrase engraved on her engagement ring, writing “not.going.anywhere.” as a reminder of his commitment. Lopez also used the saying as a song title on her This Is Me… Now album.
The couple rekindled their romance in April 2021, 17 years after breaking off their engagement in 2004. According to People, Affleck had proposed to Lopez at the time with a 6-carat radiant-cut pink diamond ring from Harry Winston, but for their second engagement in April 2022, he proposed with an 8.5-carat radiant-cut green diamond flanked by two half-moon accent diamonds and set on a platinum band. Lopez’s newest ring boasts a price of around $5 million, reports the outlet.
As with their previous engagement in 2004, however, their romantic reunion was cut short. On Tuesday, August 20—exactly two years after the couple’s Georgia wedding ceremony—Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court.
“She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken,” a source told People. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.” Though Lopez listed the couple’s date of separation as April 26, 2024 in the divorce filing, she’s been spotted since then with Affleck and with her former step-children, including Violet Affleck.
