Selena Gomez Surprises High School Volleyball Team With Visit

Selena Gomez delivered on an ask by a Colorado high school volleyball team to visit, surprising its members at a home game.

“They asked!! Couldn’t help it, it’s my first time in Telluride!” the Emmy nominee shared in an Instagram post of the meeting on Saturday.

The series of photos in the carousel begins with an orange sign which reads, “Selena Gomez, please sing the National Anthem @ one of home games,” with the Telluride High School team listing two dates — Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. — as options.

In a video, Gomez is depicted entering a gymnasium, surrounding by the ecstatic team members in uniform, some of whom are screaming with enthusiasm and others who are recording the multi-hyphenate singer and actress.

“I saw the sign, so I had to come by,” the Only Murders in the Building star is heard saying, as the high schoolers thank her for coming. Though she didn’t sing at the sporting event, Gomez posed for pictures with the team and signed autographs, including one on someone’s forehead.

Telluride Middle/High School also posted images of the sweet encounter, writing in a post, “Thanks @selenagomez for visiting TMHS and giving ❤️ to our volleyball teams!”

Gomez ventured to the mountains as one of the stars of Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, a Spanish-language musical crime comedy that also stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz and Édgar Ramírez. The film, which screened at the 51st Telluride Film Festival (running from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2), had its initial premiere at Cannes earlier this year, nabbing an 11-minute standing ovation.

The past week also marked the premiere of Only Murders in the Building Season 4, which sees Gomez reunite with co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short to solve new murder mysteries amid a bevy of new guest stars. Meanwhile, Emilia Pérez is set to hit theaters for a limited run Nov. 1 before debuting on Netflix Nov. 13.

Additionally, Gomez is set to return to her roots with Disney’s Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a spinoff to the beloved aughts show that she is guest-starring in and executive producing, releasing Oct. 29.
