Mexican Comedy ‘El Candidato Honesto’ Sets Early Fall U.S. Release

EXCLUSIVE: Cinematica Media has set the domestic release of the Mexican Comedy, El Candidato Honesto, for Sept. 6.

The movie opened as the top local film in Mexico last weekend to $2M.

Directed by Luis Felipe Ybarra (Hermanos y Detectives, La Noche del Diabilito), El Candidato Honesto tells the story of a former idealistic leader turned corrupt politician who is cursed by his grandmother on her deathbed to only speak the truth.  The movie is based on the Roberto Santucci movie, O Candidato Honesto. The Mexican version was adapted by Charlie Huevo Barrientos and Pablo Emiliano de la Rosa and is a hysterical variation of Liar Liar set against the backdrop of today’s political climate. El Candidato Honesto stars Adrian Uribe, Mariana Seoane, and Teresa Ruiz.

Movie is produced by Daniel Birman Ripstein (El Crimen del Padre Amaro, La Boda de mi Mejor Amigo) and Gerardo Moran (Los Adioses, Amores Permitidos).

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to showcase El Candidato Honesto, a quality comedy, to audiences throughout the United States,” said Rebecca Doher, President of Cinematica Media. Based in Los Angeles and Florida, Cinematica Media is a global media, marketing, and distribution company committed to bringing quality entertainment to diverse audiences.

Cinematica Media has acquired the U.S. distribution rights, with distribution vet Joe Garel handling sales. The film will have an exclusive theatrical release on several hundred screens across the U.S.  The MRKT will be leading all publicity efforts.
