Regency’s Westwood Fox Village & Bruin Theaters Closing This Week

Regency‘s historic Westwood Village and Bruin theaters are closing this week as their leases comes to end.

“Regency Theatres lease of the Bruin & Village Theatres ends this month with the last day of operation being July 25th.  We have been proud to steward these buildings for the past 14 years and are grateful to the Hollywood community & patrons alike who have supported these iconic theaters.  We are excited to see what the future holds for these beloved Los Angeles Landmarks and look forward to their continued success,” said Regency Theatres President Lyndon Golin in a statement.

The Westwood Fox Village, known for its 170-foot Spanish Revival Art Deco tower, is expected to undergo a renovation after the filmmaker initiative led by Jason Reitman earlier this year saved the 1931 cinema. No word on when and how construction is scheduled to go down.

The Bruin’s fate is up in the air. No one has come through yet to save the cinema, which opened in 1937 counts 670 seats, compared with the Fox Village’s 1,400 seats.

Both venues are expected to close Thursday.

Both the Fox Village and the Bruin had remained destinations for major studios when it comes to Hollywood premieres including Challengers, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and It: Chapter Two among several recent tentpoles. The Fox Village boasts a 70MM projector; it was one of the highest-grossing venues for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza in 2021 coming out of Covid.

The Village will close the curtains on Apple’s Fly Me to the Moon, which is currently playing there, while the Bruin will wrap with this weekend’s big blockbuster Twisters, which overperformed to $81.2 million across the nation.

Regency has operated the venues for the 14 years.
