‘The Daily Show’: Jon Stewart On “Terrible F***ing Week” & Why RNC Plans Were Canceled: “You Really Don’t Want To Be In The Hard Perimeter”

Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show after the Comedy Central show scrapped plans to broadcast from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee following the Donald Trump assassination attempt.

“What a terrible f***ing week,” Stewart said on the show.

The host then mocked his decision to return to the show to cover the presidential elections.

“Hey Jon, come back to The Daily Show just for the election, it’ll be fun,” he joked. “You can do one day a week, it’ll be a laugh. What could go wrong?”

Stewart acknowledged that the show was supposed to be broadcasting from Milwaukee to cover the RNC “but because of the attempt on the former president’s life, the venue in which we planned to do the show, which was originally located in the soft perimeter was shifted (understandably so), to the hard permiter.”

“You really don’t want to be in the hard perimeter,” he added. “It was locked down. They build cages around the theater, and because of that, we felt that we could not put on the theater shows effectively without… people.”

Stewart was grateful to the mayor of Milwaukee for being accommodating to the show and hoped to return to the city and make up some of the events planned, like the “Indogcision.” The host said the event had the mission to get dogs adopted and people registered to vote.

In addition, Stewart gave “the biggest slice of praise” to the production team and crew for reshuffling after the scrapped plans for the RNC shows.
