New Regency’s ‘The Creator’ Hits Hulu Before Christmas

New Regency/20th Century Studio’s $104M-global grossing The Creator will debut on Disney-sister streamer Hulu on Dec. 20.

That’s a very long 83-day theatrical window from the time the movie opened on Sept. 29 in the U.S./Canada.

The Gareth Edwards directed original sci-fi movie stuck to its fall theatrical date and weathered the actors strike without any promotion from actors.

The film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles, and Allison Janney, and is set amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence. Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war…and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory, only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child (Voyles). Edwards and Chris Weitz wrote the screenplay off a story by Edwards. Producers are Edwards, p.g.a., Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer, p.g.a., and Arnon Milchan. EPs are Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer, and Zev Foreman.

As previously reported Disney is in the works on bringing Disney+ and Hulu into one-app with an anticipated rollout in March. Back in November, it was reported that Disney would buy Comcast’s remaining third stake in Hulu for $8.6 billion.
