‘The Roommate’ With Patti LuPone & Mia Farrow Sells Out First Weekend – Broadway Box Office

Broadway turned out to see favorites Patti LuPone and Mia Farrow for the first weekend of The Roommate, the new Jen Silverman play at the Booth. In its first weekend of previews, The Roommate played to over 100% of the Booth’s capacity, grossing $315,873 for four previews.

Previews began August 29 ahead of a September 12 opening night.

The play stars LuPone and Farrow as two very different women thrown into the very close proximity that the title suggests. As the synopsis has it, the play “shatters expectations with its witty and profound portrait of a blossoming intimacy between two women from vastly different backgrounds, as they navigate the complexities of identity, morality, and the promise of reinvention. Being bad never felt so good as it does in this riveting one-act about second acts.”

Another notable Broadway box office figure for the week ending September 1 – which included the Labor Day Weekend holiday – was The Outsiders‘ take of $1,525,434, the production’s eighth house record at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

In all, the 25 Broadway productions on the roster grossed a total $28,131,405, an 11% increase from the previous week when one fewer show was playing. Total attendance for the week ending September 1 was up about 6% over the previous week, with 223,670 admissions. About 95% of Broadway’s seats were filled.

Among the week’s strongest performers were sell-outs Hadestown, Hell’s Kitchen, Oh, Mary! (another house record with $1,095,843), Once Upon a Mattress, Stereophonic, The Outsiders, and The Roommate.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 15th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $481,550,224 up 6% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 3,825,064 up about 4%.
