Kali Uchis: Red Moon in Venus [Geffen]

Kali Uchis has described her new album as “a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus.” It includes lead single “I Wish You Roses,” which Pitchfork’s Isabelia Herrera says conjures “the lissome ethereality of soul legend Minnie Riperton, but also the low, plangent melancholy of jazz titan Sarah Vaughan.” Read Herrera’s profile, “Welcome to Kali Uchis’ High-Femme Fantasy.”

Nyokabi Kariũki: Feeling Body [Cmntx]

Feeling Body is the debut full-length from Kenyan composer Nyokabi Kariũki, following her 2022 EP, Peace Places: Kenyan Memories. Feeling Body was inspired by Kariũki’s experience with long Covid. “I am ever in awe of our bodies, and how they keep going, despite and in spite of all the pain we go through in life,” Kariũki said when announcing the LP. “In a way, this album is an expression of love, and gratitude, to my own.” The new album includes contributions from violinist and vocalist Yaz Lancaster, bassist Ian Fales, drummer Chris O’Leary, and trumpeter Michael Denis Ó Callaghan. Check out Pitchfork’s track reviews of Kariũki’s “Equator Song” and “Nazama.”
