A man charged in the deaths of three people and attempted killings of two others in 2018 has been found guilty as charged, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Selvin Fabian Salazar was found guilty of opening fire on his pregnant girlfriend and friends on July 31, 2018, killing one, fatally wounding another and then murdering his fellow gang member who helped him flee the scene.

According to the D.A.’s Office, Salazar was found guilty last week of three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder, as well as felony counts of witness intimidation, carjacking and gun possession by a prohibited person.

According to past reporting, Salazar was at a trailer park in Gardena with a group of friends and his girlfriend when he became upset and opened fire on the gathering.

Officials said he shot at a vehicle occupied by 28-year-old Dolores Sanchez and 37-year-old Saith Pedraza. Sanchez died in the shooting and Pedraza suffered life-altering injuries that eventually resulted in his death two years later.

Salazar’s pregnant girlfriend, who was 23 at the time, was also injured, as was a 24-year-old woman who was briefly hospitalized.

After firing on the vehicle, Salazar fled the scene alongside his friend Francisco Montes, previously identified as a fellow gang member, and Montes’ wife. Investigators said at the time that Montes and his wife were forced to help Salazar escape against their wills.

The trio ended up in Lynwood, officials said, at which point Salazar turned violent again.

While the three were in a vehicle, Salazar shot and killed Montes and then attempted to kill his wife. The woman was spared after the gun malfunctioned, law enforcement officials said at the time.

He left his victims on the side of the road and fled the scene, leading to a 36-hour manhunt that ended in an arrest in his hometown of Inglewood.

Salazar, now 32 years old, was charged in the rampage and ultimately convicted more than six years later.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón called the separate shootings a “devastating situation” and said the conviction brings a measure of justice to the victims.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, who have endured such imaginable pain and loss. No verdict can ever fully heal the wounds caused by such senseless violence, but we hope the case’s outcome provides some solace and a sense of closure,” Gascón said in a news release.

Salazar is scheduled to be sentence on Oct. 23 at the Torrance Courthouse and is expected to receive a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The case was investigated by homicide detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
