A man arrested for allegedly trying to meet a 15-year-old for sex set off a child pornography investigation in Costa Mesa that yielded another arrest. Now, police are searching for more potential victims.

Jonathan Garduno, 30, was arrested earlier this month in Costa Mesa for allegedly trying to meet the teen girl. During that arrest, his cell phone was taken as evidence, the Costa Mesa Police Department said.

After finding “extensive evidence of child pornography,” detectives discovered Garduno had been having a text message conversation with 24-year-old Costa Mesa resident Tanner Shallahamer, police said in a news release.

“Detectives found Shallahamer was sending and receiving images and videos of child pornography,” police said. “Detectives also found Shallahamer sent videos of himself stalking a female while she lay in bed at her residence in Costa Mesa. Detectives are further investigating Shallahamer for possibly stalking other women and female teenagers and involving another male subject by sharing identifying information with intent to commit a sex crime.”

Shallahamer was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography. He has since been freed on bail.

Police believe Shallahamer may have additional victims, including those he allegedly stalked and female victims to whom he sent nude photographs of himself.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Gardner at 714-754-4937.
