Based on how Week 3 played out across the NFL, Bill Belichick could have several appealing coaching opportunities to choose from this winter.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni drew plenty of criticism for keeping his team on the field for fourth down on multiple occasions in Sunday’s matchup against the Saints — going 1-for-3 in those scenarios in what was a 15-12 nail-biting win over New Orleans.

Add in a 1-2 start for a talented Dallas Cowboys team under Mike McCarthy and an identical record for a team close to Belichick’s heart in the Giants, and it does seem inevitable that Belichick will be coaching on the sideline again next fall.

But which teams could realistically be in the running for Belichick’s services?

Sure enough, former NFL MVP and current media personality Boomer Esiason listed the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants as all viable options for Belichick if they move on from their respective coaches.

“I was thinking Dallas. I was thinking Philadelphia. I guess I’m thinking the Giants. … I was thinking any one of those three teams,” Esiason said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday. “Mike McCarthy is a lame duck coach right now. He does not have a contract past this year. Very few coaches ever find themselves in that situation.

“So, that tells me if good ol’ Jerry Jones doesn’t get what he wants out of this team and doesn’t get to the playoffs – and right now I wouldn’t say that they’re an odds-on favorite to make it after their last two home games – I definitely could see Jerry Jones going down that road next year. So, there are plenty of places that will definitely interview Bill Belichick, I would think. But those are three places that I would have at the top of my list.”

The Eagles might be 2-1 to start the season, but Sirianni’s clock management, play calls in critical situations, and a lackluster end to the 2023 season could have the coach on the hot seat in Philly.

“Nick Sirianni is one of the interesting guys to watch as a coach in this league, simply because that fanbase is very, very restless, and they’re fed up with the in-game decisions that he is making,” Esiason noted.

Esiason is far from the only former NFLer to tab Belichick as a potential replacement for Brian Daboll in New York.

Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman predicted earlier this month that Belichick will be the next coach of the Giants, due in large part to his ties to the organization.

“The real enticing one, to me, is if the New York Giants open up,” Edelman said during an appearance on FOX’s “The Herd” on Tuesday. “And I am not calling for anyone’s job. I love [Giants head coach Brian] Daboll. Daboll is my favorite. But the fate of what they’ve put on the field… You’re going to go down with that ship.”

“If that opens up — I remember vividly any time we played in New York or we played the Giants, you could just see a little jingle in Belichick’s spirit because he loved talking about those old Giants teams,” Edelman added. “And he loved talking about that organization. You could tell that he loved the New York Football Giants. He just loves the Giants. So, I think that would probably be the place he would want to go to.”
